THE PLAN

The town, from above and up close.

Plan your day around actual access and opening hours. You can swap the castle and abbey visits: check before setting off, especially if you want to go inside.

  1. Morning · get your bearings

    The streets of the centre

Begin with a walk in the historic centre and locate the castle on Monte Teja. Use this first part of the day to notice the town’s details and choose an approach that suits you.

    Allow 45–60 min

Good to know. If you want to enter a place of worship, check that your visit does not conflict with services.

    Start with some history
  2. Morning · above the town

    Towards the castle

Head uphill without rushing. The visit begins along the way, among the houses and changing views. Once in the area, check access to the castle ruins before approaching them.

    Allow 60–90 min

Good to know. This is a time allowance for the stop, not a measured journey time. If the climb is too demanding, choose a shorter walk instead.

  3. Midday

    A break for lunch

Return towards town and make room for a proper lunch break. Choose a place that fits your location and schedule, without rushing between visits.

    Allow 60–90 min

Good to know. Contact the venue about opening times, reservations and the day’s menu.

    Plan your lunch break
  4. Afternoon · local heritage

    San Filippo Abbey

Spend part of the afternoon at the abbey, a place connected to Agira’s religious heritage. Take in its facade and steps; check opening hours before planning an interior visit.

    Allow 45–60 min

Good to know. If it is closed, enjoy the exterior and continue your walk through town.

    Discover the abbey
