Start in the centre and choose streets that suit your pace. Leave room for detours: this suggested walk does not require reaching the castle.
Your starting point
The historic centre
Start from Piazza Garibaldi, the heart of Agira, where you can admire Palazzo Zuccaro and enjoy a granita at the bar. Then begin your walk towards the upper part of the town.
Allow 35–45 min
Good to know. Don’t miss the chance to take a photo of Agira from the so-called “Passiatore”. From here, the view of the town is reminiscent of Matera.

A scenic viewpoint
Reach the Tower of San Nicola, the only intact tower remaining from the ancient Castle of Agira, on the summit of Mount Teja. From here, the view stretches across the Dittaino plain, the Salso valley, the Nebrodi Mountains, Mount Etna and Lake Pozzillo. Stop for a few minutes: it is one of the best viewpoints for taking in the landscape and capturing a photograph.
Allow 20–30 min
Good to know. For the best photographs, visit between March and May: Lake Pozzillo generally holds more water and, on clear days, Mount Etna in the background may still be snow-capped.

A cassatella
On your way back towards the centre, stop for a cassatella at Antichi Sapori “’nto catoju”. Then return to Piazza Garibaldi for a refreshing aperitivo.
